A cloudy day in December could not deter the smiles on their faces as TASK management and board members broke ground for a major expansion, a 3,135 square foot addition/renovation to its 7,200 square foot building located at 72½ Escher Street. The building sits on land leased to TASK by the City of Trenton for one dollar a year. It is expected that the expansion/renovation will take approximately 6 months to complete. The new addition will dramatically expand and upgrade TASK’s kitchen adding 1,761 square feet of space and increasing food storage space by 852 square feet. A Multi-Purpose Room and Art/Conference will be added and the existing Computer Room will be enlarged. In addition, by reconfiguring existing space, a number of new offices will be created and additional space provided for meal service. The facility’s heavily used bathrooms will also be completely renovated and upgraded. Lee Seglem, the Chairman of TASK’s Board of Directors, indicated that “while it is unfortunate that there is a need to expand the soup kitchen’s facility, I am extremely proud of the community’s and government’s response to TASK’s fundraising efforts to expand this critical facility.” More than 75% of the project’s construction costs have been raised. Individuals or corporations interested in contributing to the project should contract Irwin Stoolmacher at 609-393-0855. Various naming opportunities remain. TASK is a private, non-sectarian, non-governmental, charitable organization founded in 1982.
