Esther came to the United States in December of 2005. She is from
Liberia, where women do not go to school. She became a student in the
TASK Adult Education Program (AEP) in October of 2007. This is her first
school. She is still learning how to read and write, but through the AEP
writer's weekly workshop, she wrote the following essay with some help
from her tutor, Lydia. After you enter the front door, you will
see sixteen tables in an orderly setting. I felt a feeling kindness and
was welcomed by smiling faces of people. I felt so relieved and a
feeling of joy, that people I have never seen before. And I was
introduced to a smiling face of a lady called Mrs. Kelly. In my mind
this is what America is all about. My first teacher was so good to me.
She smiled for me every day. And I was so happy at that. God bless her
and gave her long life. She is so happy all the time. You can help TASK by making a donation now. Just click here for a secure online donation.
