Back to School 2005

TASK Hands Out School Supplies to Returning Trenton Students

b2sOn August 26th, 2005 over one hundred happy children bounced through the TASK dining room. While they may not have been smiling about the September return to school, they were happy about receiving free notebooks, binders, crayons, toys, pens, pencils, erasers, etc. It was TASK's annual school supply give-away. In that afternoon, we gave school supplies to 113 children and have since given packages to about 30 more children.

All of this was made possible through our generous volunteers who helped collect items, organize, sort, and conduct the give-away. One such group was the Girl Scout troop #677, who conducted a toy and book drive at the Robert Wood Johnson center for Health & Wellness. They placed donation boxes at the gym and were surprised to find that someone had donated a sizeable beanie baby collection. Many books were donated as well. "It's terrific to see how much people wanted to share what they had", said Louisa Ho, one of the troop's leaders.

This was the second year in a row that volunteer Leslie Rita helped distribute the back-to-school donations. "The kids are so polite and so thankful. I wish the people who donated these nice things could see the looks on the kids' faces when they received the school supplies/toys." Special thanks go to Shilvi, Alison, and Rebecca, the junior Girl Scouts in the 5th grade who coordinated Troop #677's toy/book drive.

The Girl Scouts continue to bring in monthly deliveries of books and toys to TASK. Thank you to all our back-to-school donors and volunteers!
