Gifts of Stock

Donating long-term appreciated stock offers you a two-fold tax saving. First, you avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. In addition, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. Check with your accountant for the details - and whether this is appropriate for your particular situation.

Upon transfer of the securities, please send a letter to TASK, 72 ½ Escher St. P.O. Box 872, Trenton, NJ 08605 or send an email to fundraising@trentonsoupkitchen.org. Please include the donor's name, address and date of donation, as well as the name and amount of the securities donated.

If you wish to donate securities that are in your possession, you will need to sign a document known as a 'stock power' and have your signature guaranteed by your bank or brokerage firm. The stock power should be mailed to

Please mail the stock certificate under separate cover and include a letter with your name and address along with instructions to deposit the stock in account 876-04 D 74, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. The stock certificate should be mailed via certified mail, return receipt requested, to Sheldon Boyarsky at the above address.
