Kids Eating

There is a place where people wake up hungry in the morning and go to bed hungry at night. These people are our neighbors. The place they live is called Trenton.

Adult Education Program (AEP) writer's workshop

Each week, our Adult Education Program (AEP) writer's workshop selects a new topic for students to practice their writing skills. Last week, the topic was "Women Who Have Influenced My Life". One of our students, Anthony, submitted a touching essay about his mother and his first grade teacher who taught him to read, Mrs. Lawler. Anthony also took some extra time to write about a third influential woman, to whom he gave his "Honorable Mention", our very own AEP Coordinator, Kelly Hansen. Here is the lovely essay he wrote about his experiences as a student in our AEP:

Honorable Mention
(Lest We Forget)

Written by Anthony Usery

As a student/individual here at TASK, I have met new people, made new friends, all of whose company and friendship I enjoy. From the morning chatter and laughter at breakfast through to the lunch period and back to class again. This is essentially a "thank you" a "shout out".

(Lest we forget) To all those volunteer and staff members who expend that effort, give their time assisting all the students with their math, reading, writing, etc. So, lest we forget -- Here's to all you! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Shortly after coming to TASK, we went on a trip to the Howell Living History Farm. One particular person had a chicken in her arms and the chicken laid an egg. Maybe this was a sign of good luck.

This particular person walks the floor each day at TASK assisting all the students with their assignments, just like a mother hen watching over her brood, "her kids." She's always extending a helping hand, while always showing respect, patience, and great tolerance towards everyone.

Sometimes things often go unnoticed by people, and sometimes you just can't "see" a thing, you have to "see" into it. But I have noticed. And I would like to extend this honorable mention to Mrs. Kelly Hansen.

Lest we forget.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Get Involved! TASK is always looking for volunteer tutors. For more information, please contact Kelly at (609) 695-5456 x 107 or kellyh@trentonsoupkitchen.org.
