TASK Volunteer Brunch 2012

This year, 56 volunteers attended TASK’s annual “Thank You Brunch” on April 21, 2012 at TASK. As always, the kitchen staff, led by Sam Johnson, provided an excellent meal that everyone enjoyed.

The Annual Dr. Christian Hansen Volunteer Award, in memory of Dr. Hansen, who was an invaluable volunteer at TASK and a huge part of the Trenton community, was presented to both The Parish of Saint Raphael – Holy Angels and Cranbury Presbyterian church. They were awarded the Community Award for their long years of service and support of TASK.

This year we were honored to have Freeholder Samual T. Frisby as speaker at the brunch. Mr. Frisby gave a moving and inspirational speech that was well received by all in attendance. Additionally, Rayon Cauthen, Adult Education Program student and SHARE poet, read two pieces of original poetry that was inspired in part by his participation in TASK programs.

I Had a Dream by Rayon Cauthen

I had a dream, kids would be able to go outside and play.
Nobody was shot today.
My mother’s smile was beautiful like blossoms blooming in May.
I had a dream, I did it like the Giants when we beat Green Bay.
Kyhir was released on his visiting day.
Josh finally got the chance to play.
Big and Pac made amends.
Before Hoover and Martin died, they became friends.
I had a dream funerals weren’t the only time when you embrace family and friends.
Juveniles weren’t forced to be adults at an early age.
Love was motivating, faithful, trustworthy, compassionate
Joy convincing, even if nobody mentioned it.
I had a dream my nephew became blessed with success and left his mother and father’s nest.
Dreams can come true.
When you get the opportunity, you must invest your time and pray for the best.
Then watch your dream manifest.

My Appreciation by Rayon Cauthen

Y’all help me when no one would show me the way,
When others try to appoint me astray.
I really do appreciate all the outings and advice from Jaime and J.
I’ll never forget the times we shared,
I know I’ve accomplished a lot just from being here. The vibe is always sincere.

It’s a wonderful feeling to have both of y’all in my life
And someone encouraging me to do right.
Realizing that I have two people other than my queen and princess.
I’m so thankful y’all keep me on the road to success
It wasn’t me God is the reason that I am blessed,
Through the hardships and trials I progress.
Staying determined and focused was the key
I must confess.
