Look for TASK on TV! Bucks Students Collaborate to Produce PSAs for TASK

Nineteen Bucks County College students have collaborated to produce a series of 30 second TV PSAs to raise awareness of hunger in Trenton, and to support the work of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

The Bucks students are part of a video field production class being taught at the college by TASK Board Chair Jim Parker. Parker explained, "TASK has been looking for ways to raise public awareness of the needs of the hungry. We are in that perfect storm where we are in a weak economy with increasing unemployment. People are being forced to make hard choices; buy medicine, pay the rent, or put enough food on the table to feed their families. TASK is there to help. We offer a hot, nutritious meal from our Escher Street site and two satellite locations in South Trenton, five days a week, no questions asked, but we need the help of volunteers and contributors to make it happen. TASK depends on the generosity of hundreds of supporters, each of whom, joined together, enable TASK to meet our mission."

Parker says, "We need more people to step up to the plate. Times are tough, so we have to increase our efforts. We needed a way to spread the word and find more supporters. My students responded to that challenge, with the goal of increasing awareness. We shot the footage in HDV video with volunteer actors as a class, and then each student produced their own version of the public service announcement (PSA). Three of the 30 second spots were chosen to air on Comcast Network during the next few weeks, but each of the spots can be viewed online by visiting the TASK website."

Parker is an adjunct professor at Bucks. He also runs Riverview Studios, a video production company based in Bordentown, NJ.

Look for the PSAs, airing May 5th to 24th 5am-12midnight, on any of the following channels: CNN, Discovery Channel, ESPN, The History Channel, TBS, TNT, and USA Network.
