TASK Reflection by Amani Ahmed, TASK volunteer

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen offers plenty of opportunities for people who would like to volunteer. As a fifteen year old just having finished her freshman year of high school, I did not have too much experience volunteering. I was not sure what to expect. I was definitely pleasantly surprised to find that I genuinely enjoyed working there. I have now tutored and served at the soup kitchen for nearly 38hours. Each time I go, it brings a different and new experience. It’s not just work, but a lot of fun and rewarding at the same time. I would recommend volunteering to anyone who is interested. They will not be disappointed. It is extremely gratifying to witness the expression in the eyes of someone who recognizes that you are trying to help. Many patrons of the soup kitchen consistently keep smiles on their faces, and help to brighten my own day.

After the wealth of experiences I have had at TASK, it was clear to me that this was an organization I truly wanted to help and with which I would like to continue to work. In honor of its thirtieth anniversary, I decided to try and get three hundred people to donate thirty dollars each. Many donors were kind enough to contribute more than just thirty dollars. Thanks to the generous support of over forty donors, I have raised over thirteen thousand dollars so far. I am truly proud and honored to be able to assist the soup kitchen in any way. I have seen, firsthand, all the amazing work TASK does, and I know the money will go a long way.

Would you like to feed the hungry and bring a smile to someone’s face? If so, please write a check to TASK, clarifying that it is for Amani’s Appeal. I encourage everyone to participate, as this is most definitely a worthy cause.
