Muslims Against Hunger

Muslims Against Hunger

The Community Alliance for Peace (CAP) recently hosted a successful fundraising dinner at the Passage to India restaurant for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

The event was attended by several TASK board members and local prominent Muslims from the Mercer County area including representatives from "Muslims against Hunger, a volunteer nonprofit organization that aims to educate the Muslim community and the community-at-large about the problems of Hunger, Poverty, and Homelessness.

The program began with a moment of silence and a short prayer by Zahid Syed, a high school student at WW-P High School North and one of the organizers of the event.

Mr. Zamir Hassan, founder of "Muslims against Hunger", was the keynote speaker of the event; he implored the Muslim Community to get more involved in projects such as TASK and continue to give charity especially with the advent of Ramadan starting next week. This was followed by Dennis Micai, executive director of TASK, who described many of TASK's programs and how it has been instrumental in feeding the hungry in the greater Trenton area. Mr. Micai also congratulated and thanked the group for its many past contributions and hours of volunteering at TASK. "Charity is one of the important pillars of Islam and it is incumbent on every Muslim to take care of their neighbors." said Dr. Abdul Mughal, Chairman of CAP and one of the guests at the dinner event.

The organizers were able to achieve their goals of increasing TASK's visibility in the Muslim community and raised $27,585 during the dinner program. Imam Bashir Qareeb gave the closings remarks and ended the event with a prayer.

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen is a charitable, non-profit organization whose mission is to respond to the needs of people in the Trenton area by providing meals to all those who are hungry, providing services to encourage self-sufficiency and improve quality of life, Informing the wider community of the needs of the hungry, and advocating for resources to meet these needs.
