TASK's Preforming Arts Program Reaches Another Milestone

Any performing artist will tell you – there is something magical about recording your original work. This is something that you look forward to sharing with everybody. It marks a milestone in your career as an artist. With recording comes a sense of pride and accomplishment. This summer, 13 members of TASK’s band, “The FunkTASKtiks,” passed that milestone.

In 2009, TASK launched “The SHARE Project,” a performing arts program which offers support to TASK clients interested in writing and the performing arts. Originally, the SHARE Project met each Thursday for creative writing. However, thanks to a special donation of music instruments, SHARE expanded its program an additional day and created its first band. Members voted to call it, “The FunkTASKtiks.” Today, SHARE meets twice a week -- FunkTASKtiks on Mondays from 11 am to 1 pm and the SHARE Project Writers/Poets on Thursdays from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

“The SHARE Project” began with a single patron who asked for permission to use a computer to produce pages of unstructured poetry,” explained Jaime Parker, SHARE Coordinator. “Every time he would complete a piece he would come to my office, share it, and we’d talk about it.” From that SHARE was created and along the way the group started to add other components like acting, music, and play writing.

Most recently, the FunkTASKtiks recorded their first album at Moshi Productions in Bordentown, NJ featuring 10 original songs ranging from Jazz Blues to Techno. For many of the band members, this was the first time they had ever visited a music studio. “I couldn’t do this three years ago,” exclaimed Randolph Davis, FunkTASKtiks guitarist. “When I joined, I was terrified to play in front of people, but with Jaime’s help and me forcing myself to play at a lot of the SHARE practices and shows, my technique has improved and I feel I came along way. Now, I have my first song recorded and I’m already working on my second one. I can’t wait for everybody to hear us.”

Over the next few months, the FunkTASKtiks will be raising money to complete the mixing/mastering process and have copies of the CD professionally printed. If you would like to support our campaign and reserve your copy of the album, please contact Jaime Parker at
