TASK Upgrades Facilities!

Thanks to a special donation from the James Kerney Foundation, the highest trafficked area at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) has been completely upgraded.

This past winter, the Foundation awarded TASK with a $50,000 grant to enhance TASK’s main Escher Street facility. The grant allowed TASK to replace the tile floor in the dining room area that was installed in 1991 when the building was first-built. It also provided funds to upgrade the patron bathrooms which included replacing the floor, bathroom partitions and the fixtures, and replace various pieces of kitchen equipment, including food warmers and can openers that were very antiquated and in need of replacement. According to Paul Jensen, kitchen coordinator, “providing TASK with state-of-the-art kitchen appliances will dramatically improve the kitchen’s overall efficiency and reduce costs.”

“The renovation happened just in time,” states TASK Manager of Operations, Melisa Rivera. “TASK has not had a major upgrade like this since its expansion in 2007; not only is the new kitchen equipment much more efficient and cost- effective, but the access to having a nice, clean dining room and restroom helps to improve the quality of daily life for our patrons.”

“TASK is a prudent organization that uses 84% of its funds on programmatic expenses”, explains J Steinhauer, Development Coordinator. “Periodic special grants like these coupled with our on-going fundraising efforts allow us to continue to provide essential services without tapping into our operating reserves or endowment. We really appreciate the Kerney Foundation’s help in providing for these capital needs. They have been one of our most stalwart supporters over many years.”
