Backpacks filled with blankets, hygiene kits, gloves, hats, socks and scarves were distributed to patrons at TASK in February because of one young man’s encounter with a YouTube video which inspired him to act.

Thirteen-year-old Jack Barker, of Pond Road Middle School in Robbinsville, collected donations from neighbors and handed out the backpacks at TASK’s main facility in Trenton. Jack calls his project the 100 for 100 Program and hopes to inspire other kids to start involved in their communities.

“I was moved from the video clip and felt that I had to do something,” Jack stated. I could not have done this without the help from my community, and I hope other kids will be inspired to go out and make a difference.”

“It’s very encouraging to see young people like Jack, taking the initiative to help our neighbors in need”, explained Dennis Micai, TASK Executive Director. “The winter months are especially difficult for our patron community, who must regularly choose between paying their heating bill and buying food. Thanks to Jack help, we were able to distribute 100 of these bags just before the cold weather hit out area…We all are extremely grateful.”
