Summary
One of TASK’s most tech-savvy board members, Tracey Destribats, was able to use Facebook to organize and collect donations of coats, clothing, toys, household items, and hygiene products – enough to fill a few cars- for the Adopt a Family Program. The Adopt a Family Program is one in which consistent clients of our social worker and their families are chosen to receive special gift baskets for the holidays. The age and gender of the child is taken into consideration when choosing a gift, and the parents are often provided for as well. Tracey collected enough donations to adopt 27 families. Tracey posted TASK’s need for such items on her Facebook page and the result was a caravan full of wonderful holiday gifts for our patrons. Thank you to Tracey and all her Facebook friends! TASK SHARE Project Performs at The Trenton War Memorial December 8th 2009- the Anti-Poverty Network’s (APN) annual conference was held at the Trenton War Memorial. Around 225 people from throughout the state attended the event representing 80 different organizations at the conference including Governor Corzine, who was honored at the event. As a sign of gratitude for service, Corzine was given a piece of art featuring ATEAM Artist Randy Harms, who was asked to give a short speech. At the conference, the TASK SHARE Project was invited to perform poetry and music for the APN audience. The group performed for roughly 30 minutes ending with a poem entitled “Poverty Pro” written by band member Derrick Branch of the recently formed TASK band “The FunkTASKtiks”.

The TASK Adult Education Program (AEP) celebrated the success of Michael Victor as he received his GED on January 8th 2010. Since August of 2009, Michael has been studying with the TASK AEP. Michael raised his reading score by more than 100 points and increased his math score to an above-passing level earning his GED. The morning of announcement, Michael spoke encouraging his fellow students, “What they tell you is true. The tutors can really help you; if I can do it you can do it. You just have to really work at it.” Michael would like to thank TASK staff for the opportunity and their ongoing support throughout his studying process; he sends a special thanks to AEP Coordinator Kelly Hansen and his AEP Tutors Dick Knight and Kurt Steiner. In the upcoming months, Michael plans to enlist in the National Guard while continuing his studies in the field of computer technologies.
