Halloween 2009

Our 2009 Halloween party was a success! Fifty-nine children attended our annual Halloween party last month. Upon entering the party, children received tickets to participate in various games and activities. Arts and crafts tables were set up; A face painting station was available to kids where they could transform into any monster of their choosing; Socks were handed out; pumpkins donated by Solly Farms in Richboro, PA were distributed, and of course there was candy and cupcakes. Everyone had a wonderful time. As the children exited, they were given goody bags and popcorn hands and were wished a happy Halloween. Special thanks to all the individuals who donated and helped run the party.

A Home Cooked Korean Meal

This past Tuesday, November 17, TASK patrons and staff were treated to a delicious home-cooked Korean meal. For over a decade, volunteers from the Princeton Korean Presbyterian Church in Plainsboro, NJ have come each November to serve for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). While TASK depends on the many churches and groups that come daily to help serve the meal, volunteers from the Korean Presbyterian Church help TASK in a unique way by cooking the meal themselves.

Arriving at 7:00 AM, no less than seven church members immediately begin to prepare beef called “Pul Ko Ki” and mixed vegetables. For the best taste, this authentic Korean meal needs to be served immediately. This year, they cooked for approximately 500 soup kitchen patrons.

The Princeton Korean Presbyterian Church began serving at TASK about 15 years ago. Under the leadership of Reverend Samuel Oh, volunteers come to TASK once each year right before Thanksgiving to express their thankfulness to the United States. “During the Korean War, many American GIs came to Korea,” the volunteers explained. “We were so poor and so hungry. The American GIs brought food in the form of egg powder, American rice, and corned beef for nourishment. When we came to the United States, we wanted to express our gratitude. To show our true sincerity of thankfulness, we like to cook. It takes time, effort, and thought [to prepare the meal]. So every year, right before Thanksgiving, we like to come and cook for TASK.”
