TASK Partners with Princeton United Methodist Church to Open New Meal Service Site

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) has partnered with the Princeton United Methodist Church (PUMC) to provide free, hot, nutritious meals to local residents in need. Starting June 6th , the "Princeton Cornerstone Community Kitchen" will begin serving TASK meals from the Sanford Davis room at the Princeton United Methodist Church, located at Nassau St. and Vandeventer Ave every Wednesday from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Like the rest of TASK meal services, meals will be provided on an unconditional, no-questions-asked basis.

In November of 2011, TASK added its first meal service site outside the city of Trenton in Hightstown, NJ. The Hightstown Community Dinner has proved to be very successful and has recently expanded service to a second night at a second location. The Princeton site is based on this same satellite model. All meals will be prepared at TASK's main location at 72 1/2 Escher Street in Trenton and delivered to the United Methodist Church.

"Many people do not associate the city of Princeton with hunger, but it's there. Through this satellite site, we will be able to provide meals to people who may not be able to make it to our locations in Trenton or Hightstown," explains Dennis Micai, TASK Executive Director. "TASK is looking forward to working with the Princeton United Methodist Church to provide a much-needed service to these individuals."

The Cornerstone Community Kitchen will provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere."Those who come will be guaranteed a warm greeting, someone to talk with if they like, and a satisfying meal," explains Jana Purkis-Brash, PUMC Sr. Pastor. "We hope to nourish body and soul as we help to build community around the table. The mission of our church is to joyfully respond to God's love and growing as disciples of Christ by nurturing, teaching, reaching, and serving all people. The members of Princeton United Methodist church have a strong commitment to service. We look forward to serving the community through this new program."
